Inspired by her own father's achievements, Susann has long contemplated a project highlighting the navigators' role in the Raid. In 2019 Susann and Melinda Liu -- both CDR board members -- travelled together to do research in the archives devoted to the Doolittle Raid at the University of Texas, Dallas. There they spent days poring over papers and images, wearing white gloves and making notes by pencil. Curator of Aviation Archives Patrizia Nava facilitated their efforts greatly (Melinda was collecting material on her father, an Honorary Doolittle Raider). They were exhilarated by the mother lode of historical material. (After they finished, Melinda was driving a rental car and asked Susann to help use GPS to guide their way out of Dallas. Susann said she wasn't very familiar with GPS, to which Melinda said, "Don't worry, you'll do fine. If your father could navigate his way to Tokyo and China, you can get us out of Dallas." And she did.) After Susann returned home, she spent many months compiling this presentation, first as a power-point with audio (which she showed at the CDR annual meeting in 2021), and then as a video.
