CDR 2018 Meeting in New Orleans

The Children of the Doolittle Raiders (CDR) held its annual 2018 meeting  from April 20-22 in the historic city of New Orleans.  High on the agenda were the announcement of domestic scholarship award winners, and discussion of the CDR China tour from Oct. 20-30. Participants also toured the excellent World War II museum in New Orleans

wwii.jpg and visited the Ursuline Museum Convent, which has a connection to the Doolittle Raiders dating back to when some of the Order’s nuns cared for Raiders who had bailed out near their mission in Jiangxi province.  

Barbara Lewis, Connie Townsend, Angelle Albright, Donnie and Judy Bourgeois, and Beverly Daigle helped organize a number of activities and events:  

  • a Welcome Reception Friday evening, April 20, at the Royal Orleans Hotel;
  • a breakfast Saturday morning, April 21, at New Orleans’ landmark restaurant Brennan’s;
  • a Guided Tour of the Ursuline Museum Convent;
  • a CDR Meeting Saturday afternoon to discuss the China trip and updates on other initiatives;
  • a book signing and crowd-pleasing, absolutely awesome auction Saturday evening;

  • and a two-part presentation on Sunday afternoon, April 22, at the World War II Museum.
  • The first part of the presentation featured James M. Scott, author of “Target Tokyo,” Dennis R. Okerstrom, author of “Dick Cole’s War”.
  • The second part of the presentation featured Angelle Albright, author of “A Tale of Two Missions” about Doolittle Raider Robert C. Bourgeois and Sister Celina Seghers in China, and CDR member Melinda Liu, daughter of Honorary Raider Tung Sheng Liu, on the Doolittle Raiders in China and current CDR initiatives in China.
  • Participants also had the opportunity to tour the World War II Museum prior to and after the presentations.
