Drowned along with Sgt. Dieter after ditching plane in China Coast.
Graduated from High School in 1937 and attended one year of college. Enlisted August 13, 1940 at Chanute Field, Illinois and attended Airplane Mechanic's School there. Graduated in March 1941 and assigned to the 95th Bomb Squadron, 17th Bomb Group, McChord Field, Washington. Killed on April 18, 1942 in crash landing bail out of B-25 after raid on Japan. He was the only Raider to die from the bail-out of his airplane. Interred at Shatow, China by Chinese. Decorations include the Distinguished Flying Cross, Purple Heart and Chinese Breast Order of Yung Hui awarded posthumously.
